The Rang Rajasthan Festival?17 will be the third edition of Rajasthan?s most important theatre festival, which presents the oeuvre of Indian and international artists. This year?s edition of the festival will be held in early January (6-12 January), featuring a programme combining theatre and dance with exhibitions, seminars with eminent theatre personalities, an art competition, and several other attractions. One among the guest performances from Europe will be the Dada von Bzdülöw ?Theatre?s Why don?t you like sadness?, which will be presented on 11 and 12 January at the Jawahar Kala Kendra stage – JKK (Jaipur). Katarzyna Chmielewska will also hold master classes for students of the local theatre department.
So far, the Dada Theatre visited India several times. In 2007 and 2015, the company presented its pieces in New Delhi, Calcutta, Agartala, and Mumbai as part of the Bharat Rang Mahotsav Festival organised by the National School of Drama, New Delhi.
About the piece
The performance can be seen as a subtle journey through a maze of emotional states, a journey comparable to moving from one room to another. Each room is suffused with a different shade, and every now and then, when we happen to enter a room, we can find out again, how damn sad we?re feeling then. That sadness somehow blankets us, and we don?t feel like coming out from underneath the blanket. The melancholia makes us slow down so that we could carefully take a look at everything around, but while undergoing that state, at the same time, we’re trying to keep our distance so that, with new energy, we could open another door.
