London: Maciej Kuźmiński selected as choreographer at the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance

Maciej Kuźmiński is going to create this year?s diploma piece for the BA (Hons) students of Contemporary Dance at the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London. The preparations began on 5 June and will conclude on 6 July with the premiere of the piece at the Bonnie Bird Theatre.

Exactly 10 years ago, in 2007, I was finishing my BA Degree studies at Laban with the same commissioned work module, back then it was an improvised work by Kirstie Simpson from USA. A decade later I have the honour to stand on the other side, working with talented and energetic Trinity Laban students. We will focus on the creative process, which will lead to the creation of a short work titled movement-image, showing a group of people in constant motion.

Laban Centre, first called the Art of Movement Studio, is the oldest conservatoire of contemporary dance in Europe, founded in 1948 in Manchester by Rudolph Laban, a pioneer in contemporary dance and movement analysis. In 1975 the studio moves to South East London and is re-named the Laban Centre for Movement and Dance. In 2005 the conservatoire merged with the Trinity College of Music (founded in 1872), forming the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance ? currently one of the most recognizable and prestigious conservatoires in the world.

Maciej Kuźmiński completed the BA (Hons) Dance Theatre programme at the Trinity Laban Centre for Movement and Dance, receiving 1^st Degree Honours; in 2012 he graduated with distinction from the MA Choreography studies at Trinity Laban. In 2013-2016 he worked as an independent choreographer, and in 2016 he was appointed Artistic Director of the Caro Dance Theatre in Siedlce, Poland. Since 2014 his works have been presented over 70 times in Brazil, England, Germany, Austria, Finland, Serbia, Slovenia, Italy, Czech Republic, Armenia, Georgia, Ukraine, Belarus, Hungary, as well as repeatedly in Poland, receiving a number of choreographic awards.
