Festivals is a year-long series of events focusing on the Berlin jazz scene and contemporary dance. The December instalment of the cycle will feature Peter Pleyer?s moving the mirror, which touches upon the subject of Polish-German artistic output after the political transformation. It focuses on the current and historic exchange processes between both of the countries in the area of experimental choreography. Performances by Polish and German artists in Wrocław include solo performances by Anna Nowicka and Caroline Alexander (7 December), Maria Stokłosa, Oliver Connew and Aleksandra Borys (8 December) and a solo p featuring Paweł Sakowicz and Ivan Ekemark (9 December). The presentations on 8-9 December take place in BARBARA: infopoint / cafe / culture (ul. Świdnicka 8c) at 8.30 pm and on 9 and 11 December at 8 pm in IP Studio (ul. Ruska 46A/401.3). Discussions with the artists are to take place after the performances. What is the source of this energy, which makes Polish and Berlin artists launch projects nowadays – projects whose starting point are often utopias of all sorts, queer ideas, feminist of political motifs? What is the source of this energy and knowledge which force artists to constantly keep questioning the established structures and reformulate them, thus over and over again providing new solutions?
Since the mid-1990s, Peter Pleyer has actively contributed to the development of contemporary dance in Poland. As a dancer and a pedagogue, he has been a guest at festivals in Lublin, Kalisz, Poznań and Warsaw. He regularly cooperates with Old Brewery New Dance programme and Polish artists, playing the role of their artistic mentor or dramaturge (e.g. for Marysia Stokłosa). Throughout those years, he has witnessed the changes on the Polish dance scene, from the authoritarian choreographic structures and traditional dance techniques through the more egalitarian and democratic working methodologies in which materials, composition, and the questions of social and cultural gender, as well as the critique of institutions, add a new dimension to choreography.
The project is a part of the curator programme of artistic residencies A-I-R Laboratory carried out by the Centre for Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle in cooperation with Art Stations Foundation in Poznań (Old Brewery New Dance curator programme). moving the mirror was already staged on 24 and 26 November in the Centre for Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle in Warsaw.

In Between Festivals is not just a festival. It is a year-long series of concerts and contemporary dance shows. The participants include some of the stars of Berlin?s alternative scene, many of them performing in Wrocław for the first time. In the first half of the year, Hermann Heisig, Rafał Dziemidok and Ewa Garniec, Maria F. Scaroni, Vania Rovisco and Jule Flierl will present their dance productions. These events will be accompanied by talks hosted by Ania Nowak, Agata Siniarska and Karolina Wycisk. In Between Festivals is part of the Wrocław-Berlin collaboration project initiated by the Zukunft Berlin Foundation and the European Capital of Culture Wrocław 2016. Project partners include Kulturstiftung des Bundes, Hewlett Packard, Kulturprojekte Berlin, Luneta, Mediapool and Mica Moca. The project is financed by the European Commission and the Stiftung Deutsche Klassenlotterie in Berlin.
