Łódź International Ballet Festival takes place in Łódź every second year. The festival is the biggest and most prestigious ballet event in Poland. Its idea is to promote ballet art and choreographies, both in classical dance and various forms of contemporary dance. The festival also aims to exchange experience between artists, representing various choreographic styles and using various dance techniques.

The motto of the latest, 21st edition, was Eminent choreographers of the 20th century. During the 2011 festival, choreographies of George Balanchine, Maurice Béjart, William Forsythe, Akram Khan, Russell Maliphant, Jerome Robbins, Gil Roman, Ewa Wycichowska and others were presented. Sylvie Guillem, called by “The Guardian” “the most brilliant ballerina of her generation” was the star of this edition.
