Joanna Szymajda, PhD (Poland) is a critic, culture manager and deputy director of the Institute of Music and Dance founded by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage (2010).
She earned her PhD with a thesis Aestethics of European contemporary dance after 1990 at the Université Paris III Sorbonne Nouvelle and the University of Łódź. She earned her MA in theatre studies and psychology at the University of Łódź and Université Lyon II.
She is an author of numerous academic and critical texts on contemporary dance published in Dialog, Teatr, Didaskalia, Opcje and other journals.
She worked as a curator of dance projects, including the festival Łódź of Four Cultures, and as an art coordinator of the Body/Mind International Contemporary Dance Festival. As a dramaturge and curator she collaborated with Universal Law of Impermanence (U/LOI), a group set up by Kaya Kołodziejczyk.
