Marysia Stokłosa – choreographer and dancer. She graduated in choreography from School for New Dance Development (SNDO)/Hogeschool voor de Kunsten, Amsterdam and from the faculty of contemporary dance of London Contemporary Dance School at The Place. In 2006–2008 she collaborated with a choreographer Jeremy Wade. By taking part in his performances Glory and And pulled out their hair…, she performed, among others, in Berlin, New York, Brussels, Barcelona, Buenos Aires and Copenhagen. She also danced in Project Zero Point (choreography by Sara Shelton Mann), Die Zauberflote by Mozart (choreography by Min Tanaka); B.O.B. The Final Cut (choreography by Dick Wong; International Contemporary Dance Festival Body/Mind in Warsaw, 2008), Sex me not (choreography by Aitana Cordero), Vivienne (choreography by Lea Anderson), Bach Bench (choreography by Jonhathan Lunn).
She has devoted the recent years of her work to various methods of dance improvisation, by creating own, and taking part in others’ performances – purely improvised or based on structural improvisation. She participated in improvised performances with such artists as Makiko Ito (Japan/The Netherlands), Maria Mavridou, Unfinished Company (The Netherlands/Poland), Janusz Stokłosa and Symphony Orchestra in Łódź and in Cracow as well as Kolektyw Melba which she co-created together with Ilona Trybuła. She has also created projects with reiterating choreography. She created several own dance performances: Vacuum (qualified for the Polish Dance Platform 2008 in Poznań), Fall in D and The right Hemisphere (in collaboration with Arts Stations Foundation/Stary Browar in Poznań). Her last choreography, Let’s dance Chopin, had its premiere on Polish Day at Expo 2010 in Shanghai. Her performances are marked by laboratory approach and experiment with basic materials and indicators of dance/performance, such as movement, space, time, speed or rhythm.
Stokłosa has also created interdisciplinary works: a film Burdąg (among others presentation of Polish young art Nova Polska, Lille 2001), a performance Spotkanie 1 (Festival Temps D’Image in Warsaw, 2006), a site-specific project X Apartments (Nowy (New) Theatre in Warszaw, 2010) – both in collaboration with a visual artist Julia Staniszewsk. The manager of the art in residency house Burdąg which enables to (not only) Polish dance artists to work attentively on performances as well as to run workshops. She has launched and carried out, together with Ilona Trybuła, an educational project Laboratory of Improvisation taking place in the Łowicka Culture Centre in Warsaw since 2008. The project include intensive workshops with representatives of dance improvisation from Poland and abroad (among others Rafał Dziemidok, Aitana Cordero).
