Marta Zawadzka–dancer, choreographer, teacher. She graduated from the Poznań Academy of Music and Instructor’s Course in the field of contemporary dance by “Zamek” Cultural Centre in Poznań (produced under the patronage of Ministry of Culture and National Heritage and Centre for Organization of Culture), both with honours.
She started her activities in the field of dance in AKRO Dance Theatre by Community Centre in Toruń. After that, she gained her experience in choreography at Contemporary Dance Group ZA KULISAMI, with whom she created two choreographies – Sacrum (2001) and So what (2003) – presented at the National Contemporary Dance Festival in Kalisz and at the International Dance Theatres Festival in Lublin.
The artist is the first prize winner at the 12th International Presentations of Contemporary Dance Forms in Kalisz for her performance Cut-Out (2004), produced together with Kamila Jankowska and Kamila Jezierska. The performance was awarded for “creating a credible stage reality”. Cut-Out was also presented and rewarded at numerous festivals in Poland and abroad (including Bytom, Gdańsk and Bremen). During National Contemporary Dance Festival PolemiQi in Warsaw (2004) the performance was awarded with four “quality certificates” for: best stage production, stage personality, best dramaturgy and audience award.
Since December 2005 she has run Contemporary Dance Group – currently operating as SOMA Theatre.
A holder of a Scholarship from the Mayor of Toruń. During the creative scholarship (first half of 2006), she produced her solo Introrsum. During the later scholarship – Art Scholarship from the Marshal of Kuyavian-Pomeranian Region, together with SOMA Theatre she produced performance 1023 kJ (2011, premiere at the 7th “Kalejdoskop” Festival in Białystok; the performance was also presented at Alternative Theatre Festival KLAMRA 2011).
The artist is also engaged in educational activities. She works as a contemporary dance teacher, lecturer at Vocational College of Education and Theatre Practice by Enchanted World Theatre in Toruń. She runs various contemporary dance, movement vividness and body awareness classes and workshops. She collaborates with numerous cultural and educational institutions.
She has regularlyparticipated in contemporary dance workshops ran by Polish and foreign teachers, including coaching sessions for professionals organized by Stary Browar in Poznań and Alternative Dance Academy.
She took part in workshops with Palle Dyrvall (2007), Nigel Chamock (2008) and Michael Schumacher (2010).
