Born in 1952 in Gdańsk, Wojciech Misiuro was a graduate of the local Ballet Studio. He also completed the Pantomime Studio at the Henryk Tomaszewski Pantomime Theatre in Wrocław.

From 1969 to 1973, he worked at the Baltic Opera and Philharmonic in Gdańsk. Between 1973 and 1974, he was employed at the Wrocław Opera House.

Then, from 1974 to 1978, he worked as a mime actor at the Wrocław Pantomime Theatre. Between 1978 and 1979, he was a member of the STU Theatre in Cracow.

In the subsequent years, he worked as a choreographer at the “Pinocchio” Puppet Theatre in Łódz, the Rozrywki Theatre in Chórzow (1981-1982), and the National Theatre in Warsaw (1982-1983).

Towards the end of the 1980s, Misiuro founded the Ekspresji Theatre in Gdańsk, of which he was the Artistic Director from 1987 to 2000, developing his own theatre poetics. He produced such plays as Dead Can Dance (1988), ZUN (1990), City of Men (1994), Passion (1995), Cantata (1997) and Tango (1999). Under his direction, the Ekspresji Theatre he often participated in international art festivals. Contributing to the company were such dancers as Leszek Bzdyl (Dada von Bzdülöw), Jacek Krawczyk (Sopot Dance Theatre), Krzysztof Leon Dziemiaszkiewicz (Patrz Mi Na Usta Theatre) and Bożena Eltermann (Cynada Theatre).

Between 2000 and 2002, he worked as a dancer and choreographer at the Łódź Grand Theatre.

He also collaborated with the Polish Television. His first production was the ballet film Esik to the music of Grażyna Bacewicz, produced in the early 1980s.

Misiuro was the recipient of the following awards:

  • 1992, Gdańsk – Artistic Award of the Gdańsk Society of Friends of Art for the year 1991 – for creating new forms in the Ekspresji Theatre;
  • 1995, Rzeszów – 34th Rzeszów Theatre Festival – for the performance Passion in the audience ranking for the best performance at the festival;
  • 1995, “Sopot Muse” award, presented by the Mayor of Sopot;
  • 2010, Gdańsk – “Small Griffin” award, presented by the Marshal of the Pomorskie Province

Wojciech Misiuro died on March 22, 2023.
